Hug Point Beach | Jessica + Ryan Elopement | Amanda Meg Photography

March 20, 2020

An impromptu Oregon Coast Elopement thanks to Covid-19

Jessica and Ryan had the perfect day planned complete with 80 guests at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse in Hillsboro, Oregon. Then it all started.

My heart ached for Jessica. It was an emotional rollercoaster leading up to the wedding. New restrictions meant they had to make the tough decision of who to un-invite to their special day. Two days before their wedding, their venue officially closed down and they were forced to consider canceling the wedding all together. After talking it over, they decided that no – they still wanted to become Husband and Wife on THIS day and would have an elopement on the Oregon Coast.

Wedding Day

Morning of I went to scout locations. I promised I would message them a couple hours before so they knew where along Cannon Beach to meet me. The beaches were packed with people – not at all what I expected to find. I finally landed on a spot at Hug Point Beach. Jessica’s mother and I set out greenery on the sand to create an alter and it was there, in the sun and wind, that Jessica and Ryan said their vows in the company of their loved ones.

In attendance were her parents, sister with husband and kids, officiant friend with his wife, and most importantly… their dogs (hey no one said animals count towards the people count!) Their dogs are the reason these two amazing people ever found each other so it felt very fitting they were able to be there – something that would not of been able to happen with the original plans.

After the beautiful ceremony we all headed back to the cars. Jessica’s mom fed us her amazing sushi (yum!) and we said goodbye to friends and family. The newlyweds and I then ran back onto the beach for an amazing cupcake, a first dance and sunset photos.

I did not realize it at first but this day was exactly what I needed. Jessica and Ryan were seriously the coolest, sweetest and most flexible people I’ve met. It was inspiring to watch them not let any of the Coronavirus mess get in the way of their elopement. They were just so overwhelmingly happy to be marrying their best friend and the love they radiated refueled my soul. I was grateful to just be near it.
